Behind every great man, is the mom who made him. And Smokie’s mom, Monique was a force - defiant, vocal while remaining, elegant, loving and sweet. A storyteller, adventurer and keeper of family lore, she told us of her beloved ice skates - a symbol of her independence. Monique wanted ice skates; her father was away, so at 14, she found a job at the Five n' Dime paying for the skates on layaway. In keeping with the decorum of the time, her dad was horrified, and swore to buy the skates if she'd quit. She kept the skates for over 70 years -a memento of her free spirit. Like her, fortified rose is an innovative, fresh, aromatic, vibrant and at the same time, distinct wine, great for
mixing and mingling. Its sweet caramel nose, reminds us of her loved Laura Secord lollipops and candies always tucked in her purse.
